To become a respected African engineering and research platform whose technologies, publications and technical contributions are useful to developers, engineers, researchers, institutions and technical communities around the world.
2SVII researches, builds and documents the technology beneath modern products.
Most people experience technology through finished products. They see an application, platform, website, connected device or interface, but rarely see the architecture, infrastructure, circuits, protocols, libraries, experiments and engineering decisions beneath it.
2SVII works within that deeper layer. We explore how systems are designed, how technical components interact, and how engineering foundations can be made more dependable, secure, reusable and understandable. Our work begins with questions and develops into research, experiments, prototypes, reusable tools and published engineering knowledge.
Vision and mission
To investigate meaningful engineering problems, develop dependable technical solutions, and publish the ideas, methods, experiments and discoveries behind our work — making advanced technical knowledge more accessible while creating reusable engineering foundations.
Core principles
- First principles
- Begin by understanding the underlying problem rather than immediately selecting a familiar tool or a fashionable solution.
- Technical integrity
- Present research, experiments and engineering claims honestly. Document limitations, uncertainty, unsuccessful approaches and incomplete results where relevant.
- Practical value
- Research should create understanding. Where possible that understanding should also produce useful tools, methods and reusable engineering components.
- Open documentation
- Engineering knowledge becomes more valuable when it can be examined, reproduced, discussed and improved.
- Dependability
- Prioritise maintainability, security, interoperability, accessibility and long-term technical value over temporary trends.
- Responsible engineering
- Consider privacy, safety, accessibility, sustainability and the wider effects of the technologies being developed.
- Clarity
- Explain difficult ideas clearly without making them inaccurate or unnecessarily simplistic.
What we publish
Every publication carries a visible classification, an author, dates and — where the work warrants it — its methods, limitations and supporting artifacts.
- 01

Where we work
2SVII operates beneath the finished-product layer. We do not build client products or consumer applications; we build the technologies those products depend on.
Applications, platforms, connected devices and interfaces — the part of a system people actually see and use.
Everything underneath: SDKs, libraries, APIs, infrastructure tools, electronic systems, technical specifications and the engineering research behind them.
A finished product may be designed and delivered by any team, anywhere, while using a library, plugin, electronic module or infrastructure tool developed by 2SVII. That layer — reusable, documented and dependable — is the work.
